Bug#379733: Misunderstood inability of grubs activities?

Mats, I suggest you to to read the following sections of grub info manual:

 * 4.3 How to make your system robust
 * 4.3.1 Booting once-only
 * 19 Invoking grub-set-default

Then re-read the bug title again.

Note that I didn't say I used my menu.lst for fail-safe booting. I
only noted that fail-safe booting can't be configured using
non-working grub-set-default as a side effect.

On the other hand, I've just failed to reproduce the reported problem
on another PC with grub 0.97-16.1. Unfortunately, the original
configuration is not available anymore due to HDD crash.
I'm going to re-install Debian testing on that PC (though with
different HDD and partitions) within a week or two. If
grub-set-default works there as well, I'll close the bug.

P.S.
  While grub-set-default worked for me today, 'savedefault' command of
'grub' shell invoked from Debian console didn't work. It put some
strange big number into /boot/grub/default file. But this is a story
for another bug report.
