This is in fact a bug, but it is due to an internal dessign issue in update-grub
(memtest uses the same framework as linux), and fixing it might introduce more
serious problems than the one it solves.

Given that update-grub is going to be completely rewritten for GRUB 2, this
won't be a problem anymore.
