Bug#478006: kernel_dir dropped within script

Hello,

in /usr/sbin/update-grub I have found around line 140:

# figure out where grub looks for the kernels at boot time
kernel_dir=/boot
if [ "$boot_device" != "$root_device" ] ; then
	kernel_dir=
fi


So for my machine the kernel_dir is correct in the beginning.
But then the script makes the assumption that /boot is the mount
directory of the boot_device.
But at least for machine this assumption is false.

So there is the question:
Should I change my machine to match this assumption?
Or is it possible to modify the script so, that it verifies this assumption?
