update-grub is now an upstream component.  From that POV, providing the same
result as Debian's old update-grub is just a bonus, not a requisite.

I don't think your request is unreasonable, but I don't think this is the
right place to discuss it.  I certainly don't want to add a divergence from
upstream over such kind of details.
