Subject: grub-pc: New environment variables (for gfxmode and background path and other)
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20080724-2
Severity: wishlist

I would like to avoid to edit scripts in /etc/grub.d from grub-pc
because dpkg does not overwrite it during update - leaves the old version noninteractively.

My only change in 00_header script is "set gfxmode=1024x768". It
overwrites default 640x480.

I would like to keep the gfxmode variable in /etc/default/grub. By the way, I propose introduce variable for background image path, e.g. BACKGROUND=/usr/share/images/GRUB-bg.png.

I have yet another suggestion about adding new variables to
/etc/default/grub. Is it possible to append
the new variable declarations to existing file
instead of totally overwritting or totally keeping (during update by apt)?
