This bug seems to not be fully fixed, at least not on my system.
After upgrading to 1.96+20080621-1, I got a kernel panic when no root
partition could be found. Changing the root partition from the UUID to
the actual partition (/dev/hda2) fixed the problem.
Note that I do not use LVM or dmRAID.
