update: 3rd-attempt: grub fails running post install script updating kernel

Hi Robert,

sure, would have done if any error message had been there.

grub-update started by post install scripts during installation of a new
kernel just got stale.

After you hint I tried "strace grub-probe /dev/hda" and saw what was
missing: the floppy!

I had *missed to attach the floppy cable* after I had replaced the power
supply of my system.
grub-probe got stuck at /dev/fd0 working through the device list. Even
"fdisk -l" got into trouble.

Now the cable is back in place, grub & fdisk work fine again.

So this problem was caused by me, current version works well for me now.

However: Fact remains that *the older versions *mentioned below *did not
fail on that*.

No idea if that is good or bad.
