no message appearing.
updated to latest available bios might well be its fault,
but yes no GRUB appearing. bios is going straight to next boot device
tried to disable them all beside hd and that resulted in some message
that no bootable device was found.

the strange thing is that once lilo is installed and later on grub
everything is fine.

good question, as it is important that the *first mbr* write gets it
right how can i preseed grub2 on d-i?
