Bug#501942: grub-pc: grub selected wrong partition number

Description:
I used the lenny beta 2 installer. It made the entires for Lenny and Xp. But
when trying to start Xp (on /dev/hda1) grub says:

error: no such partition
press any key to continue

Afer hitting any key i get back to the main-screen. When i now try to start
Lenny it says:

error: you need to load the kernel first
Press any key to continue

And i get back to the main screen. I cannot boot into any Os until i have
made a restart. But if i select Lenny first however, it boots up correctly -
everytime.

Workaround: I changed the entry from

menuentry "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" {
   set root=(hd0,0)
   chainloader +1

to

menuentry "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" {
   set root=(hd0,1)
   chainloader +1

Expected behaviour: Grub should make the entries correctly, without any user
intervention.
