Bug#541145: grub-pc: menu and kernels load extremely slow

reopen 541145 !
thanks

Hello,
since grub-pc 1.96+20090808-1 hit testing and was installed into the MBR it is -
as reported before - dead slow. It takes about 45 seconds to display the menu
and about half that time to load the kernel. Then everything is back to normal
speed. Using ascii instead of unicode doesn't help. And as the initial reporter
already mentioned, my disks make sounds like when you load large amounts of data
(positioning and spinning).

Kind regards,
Kai Wasserbäch
