Bug#545364: Confirmed; video card is the problem

Hi,

I receive the same message. It happens after the "linux" command, both
when it is run from the menu (by waiting for the timeout or selecting
the item), and when typing it into the prompt.

My video card is an ATI Radeon 9000. I didn't have another one handy,
but removing the video card made the system boot (and I could reinstall
grub-legacy over an ssh connection).

This is a particularly big problem, because the upgrade path seems very
safe: I got a message in my old bootloader, selected chainload into
grub2, booted from there, and then told it to make the upgrade "real".
I don't know why the problem didn't show up through the chainload, but
it makes the problem much worse (I wouldn't have upgraded if it would).

I hope you are able to fix this problem. Let me know if I can do
anything to help diagnose it.

Thanks,
Bas
