Whatever reason there is for those files being missing, it has nothing to
do with this bug.  Just copy them manually, and re-run update-grub.

Btw, you don't need to remove /boot/grub or anything in it when testing a
new version.  Simply re-running grub-install will update everything
needed for you.

Yes.  And others have confirmed it's working too.  I'll prepare a new
snapshot.
