Bug#558661: Grub hangs when AHCI is activated, but only after a Windows crash

GRUB2 by default uses standard BIOS calls. So it looks like a BIOS bug.
I suggest BIOS upgrade and contacting manufacturer. What is the last
message that grub shows?
Perhaps disk is in some kind of weird state. Have you tried
disconnecting the power cord?
