If you recovered booting that system please run
echo GET grub-pc/install_devices | debconf-communicate
and check if the device listed there, is the one your BIOS boots from.
Probable this is just a duplicate of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=554790
or you/grub-installer choose the wrong device there.
