Please run:
grub-probe -t drive /boot/grub
If that fails with the same error, then run this and show me the output:
grub-probe -vvv -t drive /boot/grub
Otherwise, please run this and show me the output:
sh -x /usr/sbin/grub-install --no-floppy --grub-setup=/bin/true "$(grub-probe -t drive /boot/grub)"
(Do all this as root, of course.)
Thanks,
