I looked but I couldn't find a way for GRUB to say how many sectors it sees. What is the command?
I tried --disk-module=ata and now I get "error: device not connected." and then the menu appears.
My LVM partitions are recognized and I'm able to boot Linux.
So it looks like this workaround solves the problem. I think you can close this bug.
Thanks for your patience and your help!
