I fixed this bug today upstream. The reason is the faulty .pf2 fonts (in
particular unicode.pf2). Removing them or setting GRUB_TERMINAL to
ofconsole would workaround the problem. Solution is either to regenerate
them with trunk or grab from little-endian machine
