Bug#626853: grub-pc: Grub2 reboots repetadly when using RAID1 on /boot on GPT partition

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100804-14
Severity: normal
I migrated this evening my debian squeeze from a standard installation to a RAID-1 software setup using GPT partitions (though I'm on a non-EFI system / I'm o BIOS, this seems to be supported as wikipedia states ... I hope so at least because I had planned to create a RAID-6 array with > 2TB partition).
The problem is the following: just after the boots (the POST of the BIOS) the system gets to the grub screen (I suppose) and before I can see / do anything, the computer reboots over and over.
I had tried with third-part kernel (linux-headers-2.6.38-bpo.2-all-amd64), custom kernel and whatever I do does not change the end result.
I even tried with extlinux but couldn't get past the operating system check of the BIOS (at least didn't reboot).
I do not even get to a grub console and /var/log/messages doesn't report any errors.
Tried even with grub (legagy) but couldn't get as "far" because GPT support is lacking.
All partitions (boot, swap, root, tmp) are mapped to md0, md1, md2, md3 (RAID-1 disk array).
Boot partition is marked as active by parted and gdisk.
Mainboard is ASUS M4A89GTD PRO if that can help.
