Yes, I think so. I switched to it pretty early.
$ ls -l 10_hurd
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2339 Sep 1 2008 10_hurd
$ dpkg -S 10_hurd
grub-common: /etc/grub.d/10_hurd
