Sorry for being unclear and thank you as always for your fast responses!

Currently upgrading GRUB on this one system, the version booted by the
firmware, that means the GRUB version actually run, is still 1.99-7
which might be related to my RAID experiences documented in Debian bug
#500157 [1].

Basically I want to configure on what devices GRUB is installed on. As
far as I know every user gets asked this question when running for
example the Debian Installer.
