Hi,

I'm maintaining a set of tools and libraries for interacting with Apple
iDevices (libimobiledevice, libplist, libusbmuxd etc.). Most libraries are
LGPL and tools are GPL (with some exceptions here and there).

libimobiledevice (and idevicerestore, currently in NEW) builds against GnuTLS
because of the issues between OpenSSL and GPL licences

I was recently made aware of
http://meetbot.debian.net/debian-ftp/2020/debian-ftp.2020-03-13-20.02.html and
after asking on #debian-ftp Scott Kitterman noted that a formal announcement
was on his TODO list.

Upstream support both GnuTLS and OpenSSL backends, but I think Debian is the
only one to use GnuTLS and it seems that it's less tested (and more buggy)
than the OpenSSL one, so if possible I'd like to switch to the OpenSSL
backend, but, besides the more formal announcement (or at least a mail
confirmation that it's ok to do so) I wonder if there are consequences for the
dependencies building against libimobiledevice (like gvfs or upower) and if
they should be made aware of it (Sebastien Bacher is part of the GNOME team
and recently asked about the switch so I don't think he'd disagree but still)

Regards,
