[Pkg-gtkpod-devel] Package broken for years still marked as stable

The website libimobiledevice.org states that version 1.3.0 is the 
current version and on it's page /status that the backup functionality 
is Completed and "Fully implemented"

In the discussion with the developers I found out, that they mix 
enhancements and bug fixes without changing the version number. Also it 
seems that the version number thay use is for the whole project and not 
for an individual utility. Therefore the version distributed with Debian 
is outdated for years.

Further more the functionality of the package is (at least) partly 
broken for years. But as shown above they still mark the software as 
Fully implemented and stable.

I suggest two things:

1. Update Debian package regulaty depending on checksum of source, not 
depending on version number.

2. Negotioate with the package developers if there is a chance to help 
them fix the problems they have.

It is no good for Debian reputation if the stable distribution includes 
software which is stable NOT working!
