No, oddly enough I don't have that email (perhaps accidentally deleted 
it without reading?!?).

No, it is not suffient to hardcode cleanup: You cannot know if upstream 
extended the clean target - as apparently is the case with Pandoc.

(I say "apparently" because I really do not understand Haskell so am 
just fumbling here)
