Anyone currently working on a tomcat5 package? I have found a need to
upgrade to tomcat5 on my network and have started playing around with a
package available from Paul Dwerryhouse from the below apt source.
deb http://apt.leapster.org/tomcat ./
This is the only one I have found and already I can tell it needs some work
to match up with the tomcat4 package I use from the debian distribution,
which I am assuming is maintained by you guys. In any case, since I have to
do the work to get this standardized and working in my environment, it fits
with the OS mindset to make the benefits of my work available to others.
Has there been any work done by anyone on this list in this arena already?
If so, I would like to dovetail on that effort rather than doing the same
work independantly.
Just for a brief description of why I personally feel the need for tomcat5,
let me tell the issue I am having. Our marketing guys here want to be able
to do log analyse on access logs from the sites we host on tomcat4.
However, the way we have our network set up, we have coyote listening on
port 8180 with redir running on port 80 proxying everything to port 8180.
Of course, tomcat sees everything coming from the localhost and the remote
IP is lost. I have read that Tomcat5 allows binding to a reserved port
without having to stay running as root and I have opted for that solution
over others since it has been requested that we look at upgrading Tomcat as
well.
