Seph,
The make-jpkg utility does not allow you to run as root by design;
if you are having trouble running under fakeroot, it sounds like you
have a problem outside java-package. What errors are you experiencing
when you run make-jpkg with fakeroot under your normal non-root account
as intended? Executing the following command should result in a
successful execution:
# fakeroot make-jpkg j2sdk-1_4_2_09-linux-i586.bin
