Hi,

<disclaimer>I know close to nothing about java...</disclaimer>

I have to install a server with tomcat4 but, whenever possible, I'd
rather not use non-free software...
I tried with the non-free j2sdk1.4 from blackdown, and everything worked
quite fine.
So I decided to try with free java, so I installed free-java-sdk and
kaffe, but it does not seem to work...
According to http://pkg-java.alioth.debian.org/developers.html, "If your
package is in contrib, also mention the reason, e.g. if the package does
not run with free JVMs or if it (build-)depends on other packages in
contrib." but I did not see such an explanation
/usr/share/doc/tomcat4/README.Debian.gz and the dependencies are
sitisfiable without non-free java...

Do my question is: is it possible to run tomcat with free java?

Thanks in advance,

Nicolas Boullis
