The pdf-transcoder.jar you will find in recent batik binary releases is
_NOT_ from the fop (0.20.5) package, but a specific CVS snapshot of
fop 1.0-dev done only to put it into the batik tarballs (with two
additional classes from avalon project).

So basically batik will NOT work with the pdf-transcoder stuff inside
the current fop package in debian.

This situation will only change once the fop / batik projects will
merge to the xml graphics project upstream and really depend on each
others stable versions.

We also cannot include the (right) pdf-transcoder jar into the batik
packages as the batik src downloads do _NOT_ include the pdf-transcoder
sources (just the precompiled jar).

See http://wiki.apache.org/xmlgraphics/XmlGraphicsCommonComponents
for the problem and the upcomming solution.

Wolfgang
