Package: java-package
Version: 0.24
Severity: normal

For Sun sdk, java-package creates a package whose files are
mostly installed under /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5-sun/, whatever update
version it is... So installing the package created for update number
4 replaces the update 3, for example.
So it's hard to make several updates cleanly cohabit at the same time
(for test purpose before migration, for example).

A workaround could be to include the revision number in the directory
(/usr/lib/j2sdk1.5_03-sun/, /usr/lib/j2sdk1.5_04-sun/).
What do you think?

I think 'bad idea'. Minor revisions like this are never been done in new
package names, php 4.0.* isn't coinstalleable with php 4.4.*, it's all called
'php4'. Only php5 is a different package name.

If you want to test such minor updates, you can either install them
alternatingly, or use a chroot to stage your install (a chroot is relatively
easy to do). If it's very mission critical, you'd probably have extra hardware
to test it on anyway. For less critical things, just installing it, testing,
and reverting to the older version if something breaks, works just as good,
and provides a lot less hassle for everyone else (our dependency and
alternative system can't handle new packagename with minor update very well,
especially due to the many, automatically generated and unpredicteable in
advance, package names that involves, they are not designed for that).
for that).

Sorry,
