Bug#365577: eclipse: Opening compare view freezes system

If I select a file and choose "Compare with HEAD", Eclipse tries to open the compare view, but in the
middle of this process, the system freezes: it is no longer possible to move the mouse or to switch
to the console. There are no relevant entries in workspace/.metadata/.log and the system log files.
I use the following additional plugins:
- Eclipse Webtools
- PHPEclipse
- Subclipse
