Agreed with all the above, but eclipse seems to have no active
maintainer right now
and the version in debian is trully ancient (the equivalent of kde 2.x).

The best solution at this time is probably to remove eclipse
altogether from debian
until someone with the needed time and dedication can pick it up and bring in
the current versions.

Until then we 'd just be beating a dead horse, imho.
