Hi Emmanuel, if you are in contact with the upstream and you can
coordinate a new Checkstyle release, then this is a perfectly fine
course of action.

In general we don't know when upstreams are going to release a
new version with a fix in, so I thought in the meantime the Debian
package could address the issue on its own with a patch and make users
happy (me, in this case) and then drop the patch when upstream
integrates it.
