Bug#702879: 1.0.x format is not backward compatible with 0.9

Windows users installing the default 1.0.x version are now generating *.mm
files that will no longer load in previous versions.

This hurts interoperability between Debian / Ubuntu and Windows.

I've been running an unpacked archived copy of the 1.0.1 version out of
/opt for a while and not noticed any issues.
