lucene-solr in Debian : why not version 7.3.1?

I was afraid of that. Java packaging does seem to be in dire need of 
more help.
I see that lucene depends on xml-commons-external (orphaned) ; I may 
take over maintaining that
(within java team), and investigate what new dependencies lucene would 
require.
