For those stuck with a non-working npm, as an emergency fix you can change

/usr/lib/nodejs/node-uuid/index.js ->
../../../share/javascript/node-uuid/node-uuid.js

to

/usr/lib/nodejs/node-uuid/index.js ->
../../../share/javascript/node-uuid/uuid.js

(of course, once the package is updated things should go smoothly on their
own).
