This can be fixed by switching from browserify-lite to webpack (or possibly rollup too which is lighter than webpack). I have a proof of concept commit in babel7 branch which has all tests passing.

I tried a lot of different options and plugins but it is still failing autopkgtest. I have asked Jishnu to have a look. If we can't fix it in some time, we should package 2.x (currently rc and supports babel 7).

rails is fixed in experimental (rails 6) and will come to unstable when rail 6 transition starts, if we fix node-yarnpkg before that I will fix in unstable too (rails 5).
