Hi,

As you may have seen, I have uploaded a first version of the Julia
package to Debian. It is now awaiting approval by FTPmasters. The
package is based on a commit from Nov. 2, 2012. The next step is to
integrate the relevant patches in upstream git (and this has already
started thanks to the file layout reorganization), and to package a more
recent version.

In order to access the git repository for Debian packaging, you should
create an account on Alioth, and request to join the pkg-julia project
there:

 https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-julia/

The Julia package is maintained with git-buildpackage (with the
--pristine-tar option). Documentation is in the package itself:

Once I have accepted you in the pkg-julia Alioth project, you can clone
the repository with:

 gbp-clone ssh://login@git.debian.org/git/pkg-julia/julia.git

The orig tarball has been created with the "get-orig-source" rule of
debian/rules.

The debian/copyright file follows the machine-readable 1.0 format:

 http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/

Patches are maintained with quilt, and their headers follow DEP3:

 http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/

In particular, patches that need to be applied upstream are marked
"Forwarded: no". The patches that are not meant to be forwarded upstream
are marked "Forwarded: not-needed".
