[Pkg-julia-devel] Jan 07 update

Hi,

I have uploaded to Debian a new snapshot of Julia, based on the "stable"
commit recommended by Jeff Benzanson in a mail to julia-dev@ on Jan 8.

Concerning the arm and ppc ports, I implemented the USE_SYSTEM_LIBM
solution, and that indeed solved the openlibm problem. Then it crashes
on a GCC flag not available on these archs, which is easy to solve.

I recently acquired a Raspberry Pi on which I installed Debian armel, so
I could go a little further. After fixing the GCC flag issue, the build
crashes at the LLVM compilation step:

 (test -f /home/sebastien/julia/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/julia/sys.ji || /home/sebastien/julia/usr/bin/julia-release-readline -bf sysimg.jl) && /home/sebastien/julia/usr/bin/julia-release-readline -f sysimg.jl || echo "Note: this error is usually fixed by running 'make cleanall'."
 LLVM ERROR: Not supported instr: BMOVPCRX_CALL %R3<kill>, %R0<kill>, %R1<kill>, %R2<kill>, <regmask>, %LR<imp-def,dead>, %SP<imp-use>, %SP<imp-def>, %R0<imp-def>; dbg:no file:0

I am completely ignorant of LLVM so I can’t help with that.

If you want to debug/workaround this, I can open accounts on my arm
machine. Note that it is painfully slow compared to recent x86 machines,
but it still does the job.

Best,
