Sorry, I haven't had the chance to try this yet.

I'd be interested to see the results with 3.6.
Right now, llvm-toolchain-3.7 FTBFS on i386 in the development version 
of Ubuntu [1], so Julia 0.4.1 wouldn't be able to migrate there.

Instead of hard-coding the version of LLVM, would it be possible to use 
the default llvm?  I think it would make backports easier.
