Did you use Make.powerpc? This has been reported to work generally, and perhaps Make.powerpc should be included in the upstream Make.inc. There will be quite a bit test failures, and there are various known LLVM issues. I think it will be fun to get a REPL and to play around with it, but probably this should not ship.
