Emilio, thanks for your feedback. I see two options going forward then:

Either we let julia depend on llvm 3.8, which will delay the migration
to testing until next spring. This is basically equivalent to skipping
Julia 0.4 entirely.

Or we let julia depend on llvm 3.7 and accept the performance hit on
amd64. (The FTBFS on i386 due to timing issues is likely fixed [1] in
Julia 0.4.2).

I think the second option is the best we can do at the moment.

Graham, what are your thoughts on the llvm dependency?
