I did, and it still FTBFS. See attach.

I suspect that julia needs an insane amount of memory to build.

It is not easy for me to verify this hypothesis, because I don't have
an insane amount of memory in my computer.

On the other hand, if julia builds ok in your machine, you could
actually verify this hypothesis easily by adding mem=2G to the Linux
command line in GRUB and see what happens. This way you will use
only 2GB of RAM.

But even if the problem is "low" memory, I would expect a more friendly
error message, like "out of memory", not "segmentation fault".
