I can't confirm this.  Tried with gwenview, showimg and digikam.
But there are lots of options that can differ:

Did you select a target folder? (here: I did ;)
Did you check that the target folder is writable? (here: yes)
Is the target folder the same as the image folder? (here: no)
What's you rename handling do you use? (here: rename)
Is overwrite original selected?	(here: not)
