this is a known bug in digikam 0.8.0. See

I can still verify it in 0.8.1 which is currently in
unstable.   I'll check if it's fixed in svn version...

Btw.  rotating and saving jpegs in image editor is lossly.
Use the RMB's 'Rotate' submenu for rotation.  This is lossless.
