[Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#411013: knemo: spawns many processes even when
disabled

Package: knemo
Version: 0.4.6-2
Severity: important
I'm in the process of setting up a new Debian AMD64 machine, and i've
been noticing that my PID numbers are fairly high. Then I noticed that
it isn't me running these 30,000 processes... I can run ps -ef twice in
a row and the ps PIDs are between 5 and 10 apart.
Of course this makes me nervous because the system is just me at the
moment -- no outside access has been granted knowingly. So I set top to
a delay of 0.1 and watch to see what these frequently run (short lived)
processes might be. I notice iwconfig and ifconfig and do some research
and find knemo.
I don't need polling every second (why does it poll in the first place
is a question for another day) so i check KDE's Control Center.
Internet & Network > Network Monitor >
"Use KNemo to monitor your interfaces"
is UNchecked.... so why is it still spawning more than 100 processes a
minute?!?
I confirmed it was indeed KNemo by stopping the KNemo service from:
KDE Components > Service Manager
Suddenly my processes were back to normal, and what is more, my CPU load
droped almost 10% (impressive for 4 Opteron cores)
Why is this app still spawning processes even when it is not enabled to
monitor the network interfaces? This service gets started by KDE
automatically, and even if unused it causes a serious performance
impact on the rest of the system.
Thanks,
