I have samba-domain and i authenticated via windbind to other worksations. 
Device rights were determined at /etc/security/groupconf example group cdrom. 
k3b expect at we used only local groups at k3bSetup. 
When you add permissions example cdrdao 1.2.3 /usr/bin/cdrdao 755 root.root 4710 root.cdrom.
k3b cannot found programs anymore and complain start at you should install packeges.
No problems when user found group at /etc/group 

May be this is upstream problem. Free to reassign this to upstream.
