COURSE OBJECTIVES 



-                      Reliability is the reasonable assurance that facilities or equipment will continue to operate for a specified life cycle at designed performance conditions.

-                      Almost 40% equipment failures in a petroleum plant are caused by rotating equipment making it the largest contributor to the loss in plant reliability. Therefore, improving equipment reliability becomes the most important ingredient in improving reliability of a plant.

-                      Consideration of improvement in equipment can begin even before equipment is purchased. Reliability consideration must be maintained through the start up and post start up phases of equipment handling.

-                      A large safety factor does not necessarily result in high reliability. Equipment should be designed to high reliability so that it delivers its intended function with a high probability of success over its intended life span.
