Thank you for your efforts in diagnosing this bug.  I'm sorry your issue 
hasn't been addressed previously.  

Given the final comment on this report (below), I wonder if you are in a 
position to try an updated exiv2 library?  Version 0.25 is available in 
Debian's "testing" distribution.
