I think kde-standard should depend on those apps via kde-minimal rather than
directly.

TODO: we need to add khelpercenter4 to minimal now.

Lets see:

Depends (limited to official KDE):

phonon-backend-xine (recommended backend)
kdeplasma-addons
plasma-scriptengines (brings all plasma-scriptengine-*)
kdm
gwenview
okular
kwalletmanager
kmix
kopete
kget
kontact
kmail
akregator ?
(maybe something else from PIM, not an expert)
dragonplayer
juk
kdemultimedia-kio-plugins
kscd
kmix
(or just whole kdemultimedia metapackage instead of the 5 above)
ark
kscreensaver
kscreensaver-xsavers
plasma-desktopthemes-artwork
(maybe other kdeartwork stuff)
kinfocenter
kcalc ?
kolourpaint4 ?
(a few games and maybe something from edu)
(everything needed for polished root switching support)

Recommends:

k3b (cd burning, no alternative)
kmplayer or kaffeine - advanced media player
amarok (mostly due to popularity, media devices (ipod etc.) and internet
services support)
digikam (photo management) and showfoto ?
konq-plugins (users ask too frequently for the searchbar)
okular-extra-backends (maybe Depends?)
- most popular koffice stuff e.g. kword kspread kpresenter
plasma-widget-networkmanagement (when usable for most people)
(plasma-widget-weather is kdeplasma-addons material in 4.3)

Suggests:

gtk-qt-engine-kde4 (might be recommends too, is it stable? )
yakuake (heh, typical users are not supposed to use console at all ;) )
koffice meta package
konversation (kopete supports irc, I doubt typical user uses irc heavily these
days but still)
kuser
knetworkconf (not sure about its quality)
krusader ?
