Or in other words: the date that we plan to (pre)announce our efforts to
remove Qt4 from Jessie+1.
I have already wrote a sketch for the announce in gobby Teams/KDE/Qt4 under
"Qt 4 removal in Jessie+1"
We still have quite some time to do the removal, but I liked the idea
that the RT used for the freeze: announce it with enough time.
Using what I learned from the Qt3 removal:
- We will not have upstream support for Qt4 in Jessie+1 as the end of support
if planned at some point of 2014.
- Porting Qt4 stuff to Qt5 is easier that it was to port Qt3 stuff to Qt4.
Take a look at <http://qt-project.org/wiki/Transition_from_Qt_4.x_to_Qt5> and
the links listed in "Recommended Reading" at the bottom of that page.
- Porting needs time, the fastest we give access to Qt5 in stable the better.
That's why I started pushing Qt5 backports for Wheezy.
So here is my plan:
- Provide a Wheezy backport: already happening.
- 2014/11/06: mail debian-devel-announce with text in Gobby (please please
please check/edit/etc)
- As soon as we release Jessie: send the mass bug filling mail to debian-
devel, proceed with them. Even maybe given some certain (or not) dates.
Any thoughs will be kindly appreciated.
Kinds regards, Lisandro.
