As an active xmpp user I may convictiontly state that Kopete does not
satisfies end users need these days. And I am seriously doubt that situation
with other protocols is better.

IIRC there are few separate projects of modern instant messengers under KDE
umbrella now. For example, Kaidan for xmpp and Neochat for Matrix protocol.

I would vote for removing Kopete from Debian repos completely.
